Thorrablót (Þorrablót) 2024

January 24 - February 23

Thorrablót (Þorrablót) 2024: Thurisaz Elder Futhark Rune

In 2024 Thorrablót (Þorrablót) will be celebrated between mid-January and mid-February, aligning with the traditional Norse month of Þorri. This winter festival honors Thor, the god of thunder, as well as the land spirits (landvættir). Asatru communities around the world will gather to celebrate the strength and protection Thor provides during the harsh winter season.

In Iceland, where Þorrablót has strong cultural ties, celebrations will include traditional foods and rituals. Festivities will feature iconic dishes like hákarl (fermented shark), súrsaðir hrútspungar (pickled ram’s testicles), and dried fish. Though some attendees may skip these traditional foods, they symbolize survival and endurance in Viking-era winters. Modern Asatruar may also serve contemporary dishes to accommodate different tastes, but the communal spirit remains central.

In 2024, Asatru kindreds across the globe will adapt their Thorrablót (Þorrablót) celebrations to their local environments. Rituals will involve a blót, where participants offer mead, food, or symbolic items to Thor and the land spirits. These offerings reflect gratitude for winter survival and hopes for future protection. Groups will gather around a sacred fire to share toasts, recite prayers, and tell stories of Thor’s legendary feats.

Thorrablót in 2024 will continue to emphasize the importance of community and connection to nature. The festival serves as a reminder of the strength found in unity and resilience. Many Asatruar see Thorrablót as an opportunity to reflect on their relationship with the gods, the land, and each other.

Though celebrated differently in various regions, Thorrablót in 2025 will carry its timeless purpose: honoring Thor for his protective power and uniting Asatru communities in celebration of strength and survival through winter’s challenges. The gathering strengthens bonds with the gods and the land in both ancient and modern ways.
