Sindri (pronounced “SIN-dree”) and Brokkr (pronounced “BROHK-kur”) are legendary dwarven brothers known for their unmatched skill in crafting magical items. Sindri, also called Eitri, and Brokkr appear prominently in the Prose Edda. Together, they create powerful objects for the gods, including Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir. Their work displays mastery, creativity, and precision, which sets them apart from other dwarves. In the Prose Edda, Loki challenges the brothers to a contest of skill. As a result, the hammer emerges with a short handle but retains unmatched power and balance. The brothers also forge other treasures, including Odin’s golden ring, Draupnir, which produces eight identical rings every ninth night, and Freyr’s ship, Skidbladnir, which folds into a pouch yet can carry all the gods.
