Slagfiðr (pronounced SLAHG-fith-er) is one of the three brothers, along with Völundr and Egil, who appear in ancient tales. His name is sometimes spelled Slagfid or Slagfin. He is part of the legendary saga Völundarkviða involving his brothers and their tragic fates. Slagfiðr is best known for his association with the swan-maidens. He and his brothers encounter three swan-maidens, supernatural women who transform from swans into human form. These maidens become their wives, but the story takes a turn when the women eventually leave them after several years.
